About the Opportunity:

The shipping and receiving department is responsible for the accurate packaging, documentation and shipment of steel components and equipment. This includes shipments to internal and external customers.  The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out tasks as delegated by the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor.  General shop duties will also apply.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow work instructions and safely perform duties as assigned by the Shipping/Receiving supervisor
  • Communicate and track job and shipment deadlines with direction from the Shipping/Receiving supervisor
  • Execute primary functions within the shipping and receiving department such as:
    • Confirm assembly lists, packings lists, BOM’s, or other documentation prior to parts, equipment or components leaving Sperling
    • Follow and document proper receiving of components incoming to Sperling
    • Utilize tools and equipment to safely and properly package components to prepare for shipping
    • Follow customer specific packaging and labeling requirement (bundling/assembling)
    • Sign off and complete final shipping documentation as delegated by the supervisor
  • Perform auxiliary supervisory activities in the absence of the Shipping/Receiving supervisor
  • Work with other members of the department and delegate tasks as required
  • Assist the supervisor in the training and onboarding of new hire employees

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will be able to confidently work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.  Accurate documentation is important to you as well as maintaining the safe operation of all equipment.  While showing a positive attitude you will have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgement.

Moreover, you have a strong mechanical aptitude and take pride in the work you do.  Lastly, you have an inquisitive mind for continuous learning and a desire for professional growth with success in mind. 

Required Skills, Qualifications and education:

  • Computer knowledge - Ability to create, modify, complete and publish packing lists in the absence of the shipping supervisor. Knowledge with MS Outlook, Word, Excel and other software programs.
    • Navigate our internal server in the absence of the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor
  • Valid, non-restricted class 5 driver’s license (Class 3 or 1 would be an asset)
  • Organization, documentation and mechanical aptitude skills are an asset  
  • Ability to operate equipment, power and hand tools all while following safe practices and procedures
  • Self motivated and able to work in both a team setting and with minimal supervision.
